ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT DETAILS
A Portfolio (100%) 4000 words in length
The portfolio will consisting of answering 3 questions (approximately 1300 words in length) from a selection of questions.

INDICATIVE CONTENT
The module will trace the emergence and trajectories of various contemporary protests, new social movements and related forms of resistance and dissent. Beginning with the Zapatistas in Mexico, The Battle in Seattle and the beginning of the anti/arch globalization movement in 1990s through to post 2011 protest and new social movements across the globe most notably the 'Arab Spring', Indignados and Occupy movement. The various and complex forms of police response to these protests will be documented, analysed and debated in the context of state violence, social control and the militarization of policing globally.
LEARNING STRATEGIES
Key Information Set:
10 hours lectures; 10 hours seminars; 4 hours workshops
Weekly lectures followed on by seminar sessions which will consist of informal discussion, debate and activities. Students will be invited to attend additional personal tutorials. Seminar and workshop activities will be based on the weekly seminar questions which will also form the basis of the questions options for the assessment portfolio.
