INDICATIVE CONTENT
This module will explore different approaches to working with drug users who are misusing alcohol, and illegal drugs. Students will gain knowledge on the impact of drugs and alcohol on the individual and wider society with a particular focus on health and social effects. Students will consider the difference between recreational and addictive usage. Students will develop skills in delivering drugs education, harm reduction and abstinence advice as well as therapeutic interventions such as motivational interviewing and solution focus brief therapy. We will also look at policy and legalisation debates within the field. This module covers theory, policy and provides opportunity for students to develop skills for working with drug users.
LEARNING STRATEGIES
This module will be taught through a series of 2 hour workshops where students will engage with mini-lectures, group discussions, case studies and triad skills practice work. Students will also deliver a poster presentation as part of their assessment within the workshop programme.
