Study Skills Workshops (12x2hrs)
Developing academic skills including identifying, locating and analysing topic related literature
Research Skills Workshops (6x2hrs)
Developing and practising research skills including locating information from the internet, using SPSS and reading tables.
Directed and independent study (132hours)
This will include locating sources on the internet and practicing IT and paper based activities.
Some materials will be accessed through Blackboard / VLE

Computing facilities will be needed to access materials on the web and specialist online databases.

Microsoft Office, SPSS
Access to appropriate texts and journals.

Module Indicative Content
This module provides an introduction to Study and research Skills. It seeks to provide students with an
- Understanding of Study skills and the required academic conventions
- Awareness of Quantitative and qualitative research methods
- Ability to locate and utilise information from academic sources in relation to Social Work study and practice.
Module Additional Assessment Details
An assignment assessing all learning outcomes, weighted at 100% to include:
- Construction of bibliography 30% (LO1)
- Analysing Literature exercise 35% (LOs 1 and 2)
- Reading tables exercise 35% (LO3)
