Module Details
Module Indicative Content
This module provides a framework of the personal, social and biological aspects of human psychological developmental, demonstrating continuity and change over the lifespan. It addresses the impact of change on specific behaviours. This module considers how psychological theories can or may be applied within the social care setting.

Competing theories and perspectives about human growth, psychological development and behaviour.
Psychological research and studies of human growth and development.
The application of psychological theories to the social care field.
Module Additional Assessment Details
Summative assessment:
A written essay of 1500 words 50%
This will assess learning Outcomes 1 and 2

An individual presentation relating developmental theory to work experience. 50%
This will assess Learning Outcomes 3 and 4

Students must pass both elements of summative assessment.

Formative assessment will be through student led class discussion.
Module Learning Strategies
Whole group sessions (12 x 2hrs = 24hrs) Lectures and workshops to explain key theories of human development and their application to the social care setting. Opportunities for students to engage more actively in their learning through presentations, case studies and tutor led discussions.

Directed and independent study (126hrs) Guided reading to enable students to research and prepare for assessment, presentations and small group seminars. Students will be expected to carry out library research, internet research, work placement observation, make entries in their professional development portfolio and use professional practice personnel appropriately as a resource for learning.

Practice based learning

This will involve the observation and interaction with professionals and service users, interviews,, reflective practice and applying learning to own practice.
