Module Details
Module Learning Strategies
Whole group sessions (4 x 2 hrs = 8hrs at each level) will be used to explain and discuss issues raised during work placement. Lecturer led as an opportunity to share workplace learning experiences.

Small group and one to one sessions ( 20 x 2hr slots = 40hrs at each level) will be used to give students more active learning enabling individual workplace environments to be discussed through small group seminars of students with similar workplaces and one to one consultation time with the module tutor.

Directed and independent study (252hrs)
Students will be expected to carry out library research, intranet research, work placement observation, make entries in their working journal and their professional development portfolio and use professional practice personnel appropriately as a resource for learning.


Practice based learning (minimum of 200 hours)

This will involve the observation and interaction with professionals and service users, interviews,, reflective practice and applying learning to own practice.

This module is open only to students enrolled on the Foundation Degree in Social Care
Module Indicative Content
This module provides the opportunity for students to apply theoretical learning in a work setting. Students must complete 200 hours of work experience.

Level 1:
1. Application of social care theories, values and processes in the workplace.

2. Application of interpersonal and effective communication skills in the workplace.

3. Application of law related to social care in the workplace.

4. Application of anti-discriminatory practice and the value of promoting this in the workplace.

5. Professional expectations in the workplace
