Module Indicative Content
This module will introduce you to English legislation concerning the major principles of child care law. The module provides an overview of the legal mandates for social work practice for children and their families and its application to safeguarding and protecting the welfare of children in need or children requiring support and early intervention.
This module will introduce you to an outline of housing rights, welfare rights and to the rights of asylum seekers and refugees and to enable you to access resources independently to research the most current benefit rates and to use web based resources to access information to give service users up to date advice.
This module will introduce you to the legal framework for the management of debt.
Module Additional Assessment Details
The assessment will be in 2 parts with a total of 2000 words
Firstly, you will produce a case study of 1250 words based on a contemporary social work law and practice in relation to child protection. (contributes to meeting LO's 1, 2 and 3) (Weighting 75%)
Secondly, You will also complete the following short answer questions with a brief outline of the advice you would give to a service user in relation to:
A. Debt Advice (250 words)
B. Welfare Benefits (250 words)
C. Assylum Seeker (250 words)
(contributes to meeting LO 4) (25% weighting)
Both elements of assessment must be passed to achieve success on the module.
Additional Assessment Details (include formative feedback / assessment):
Tutor feedback during tutorials and discussions using case practice examples to consolidate and compliment students learning.
