Module Details
Module Additional Assessment Details
Students will prepare a portfolio of 2000 words that will include:

- 1500 words Critical Incident Analysis drawn from their practice
- 500 words Self Assessment and Slot Analysis that focuses on their skills and knowledge as practitioners and areas for continuous professional development. This will be completed in conjunction with the student's line manager and the module tutor.

Both elements of the portfolio need to be completed and passed.

Additional Assessment Details (include formative feedback / assessment):
Formative Assessment will be based on the learners developing an assignment plan and sharing this with peers and the teaching team through the assignment workshop.
Module Indicative Content
This module forms part of the award structure of the University Certificate in Promoting Resilience and Stability for Children in Care

The purpose of this module is to provide students with an underpinning knowledge of parenting approaches that promote the recovery of children raised in adversity.

Students will explore their own experience of adversity and its impact on their work with children

Students will explore methods to promote inclusion and self determination for children in care.

This will include engagement with key case studies drawn from research and serious case reviews to inform and develop learners practice.

The module will also examine European Models of working with and parenting children in care, this will include a critical review of the relevance and role of social pedagogy.



Topics covered in this module include:

Law, social pedagogy, therapeutic parenting, promoting recovery, approaches to behaviour management, empowerment and children and young people¿s rights.

Module Special Admissions Requirements
This module is open to Foster Carers, who work within the Local Authorities/Private and Voluntary Sector Fostering and Adoption Services who are registered as Foster Carers. The module will also be available for members of the Children and Young People's workforce for their continuous professional development.
