Module Details
Module Additional Assessment Details
The module will be assessed by an online exam based upon a case study (100%) set on a Pass/Fail basis. This exam will address all of the LOs 1 -5.
To achieve a pass in the online exam the student must achieve a mark of 70%.

All students will have the opportunity to resit the online exam, where again there will be a Pass/Fail set at 70%

There is no compensation available for this module.

Students will be provided with formative assessment feedback as they progress through the six sections of the module.
Module Indicative Content
The module is subdivided into six sections. Each of these six sections have been mapped against six core money advice competencies as identified by the Institute of Money Advisers (IMA) from within the larger set of National Occupational Standards (NOS) for Legal Advice (LA) competencies.

The six sections are::
Section 1. Managing legal advice cases (NOS LA 12) - This section includes; establishing case files; progressing the case and closing the case.

Section 2. Preparing for representation. (NOS LA 14) - This section includes; researching relevant information; preparing for both formal and informal proceedings and preparing clients for formal and informal proceedings.

Section 3. Representing clients. (NOS LA 15) - This section includes; presenting clients in formal and informal proceedings and reviewing cases.

Section 4. Managing a personal caseload (NOS LA 19) - This section includes; Recording and maintaining case notes; reviewing your personal caseload and establishing priorities for dealing with a personal caseload.

Section 5. Social policy (NOS LA 24) This section includes; The impact of legislation, policy and practice at national or local levels; influencing changes in legislation policy and practice at national or local level.

Section 6. Money and debt legal advice and casework (NOS LA 41 & LA42) - This section includes: Relevant legislation and case law; the identification of debt emergencies; the establishment of a full financial statement; the prioritisation of debt; the identification of debt strategies; the identification of liability and a understanding of business debt.
Module Learning Strategies
Each of the six sections of the module incorporates Study and Support Material together with the end of section Online Exam. Students will commence with section 1 and progress logically section by section through the module over a 12 week total module timeframe.

Contact Hours: (28) (this is taken to mean contact with the actual online material) It is intended that students spend four hours with each of the six sections
4 x 6 = 24 hrs. In addition the online exam accounts for a further 4 hrs total = 28 hrs

Independent Study Hours: (122 hrs) This will be made up of:
a) supplementary reading and research (50 hrs)
b) independent note taking (40 hrs)
c) preparation for online exams (12 hrs)
d) online and email based tasks and exercises (20 hrs)
