Module Additional Assessment Details
Students are required to produce a portfolio of 2000 words (assessing all LO's) with the following elements:
The portfolio draws together the learning of all four modules and should contain the following:
1. SWOT analysis of Legal and Policy Context for Working with Children and Families HSSAP73168-4
2. Observation of practice by assessor/line manager
3. Reflective account of learning undertaking, with further learning needs identified as a Personal Development Plan (750 words)
4. A reflective account titled "Evaluate through a chosen intervention from practice how you have developed as a practitioner and how the learning of this course has informed your practice?" Students will chose their own case study to highlight learning and need to reflect on what was done well, what could have been done better and how they will incorporate this learning into future practice. The discussion should include aspects of values, theory/knowledge and legislation/policy covered throughout the award (1000 words)

Module Indicative Content
This module provides an overview and insight into models of assessment, intervention and effective good practice for students to consider in order to succeed with this module. It will provide students with an understanding of various skilled based models and encourage reflection on existing skills, whilst attempting to consolidate and validate such skills.

The module will enable students to apply skills and new learning to practice and enhance assessments skills and planning including a more creative and holistic approach to families and services.
The module encourages current themes such as systemic practice and relationship based practice, whilst offering techniques and provide an emphasis on work based reflection.

The module is also aimed at providing initial skills in being more critical and analytical when working with families, and links in with the previous module on risk assessments and identification of concerns.
Module Learning Strategies
Scheduled Learning and Teaching Activities: (20 hours)
20 hours Interactive lectures (face to face tuition)

These face to face sessions will enable students to reflect on existing skills and explore gaps in knowledge, whilst providing knowledge and detail on other approaches and methods when working with children and families. The sessions will provide a variety of models and concepts and aim to make clear links to practice, whilst providing ideas on creative approaches in engaging children and families. The sessions are interactive for students to role play situation and practice skills in a safe learning environment. The skills explored will enable students to appropriately engage, assess and plan with families, leading to informed decision making on interventions as well as thresholds to other services. This will be achieved through formal lectures, role play and discussions.

Tutorials
Students are encouraged to attend individual or group tutorials with allocated tutors. Tutorials can include face to face meetings, email and telephone discussions or Skype in order to accommodate student's working commitments.

Guided Independent study: (130 hours)
This will include self-guided reflection on learning, facilitated and guided through the use of VLE (BlackBoard). Student need to complete the portfolio which emphasises reflection upon work experience and is enhanced through identification of resources and materials to underpin learning. Students will be guided to draw links to own practice through use of case examples, case studies and online discussions.
