Module Details
Module Learning Strategies
Whole group sessions (4 x 2 hrs = 8hrs at each level) will be used to explain and discuss issues raised during work placement. Lecturer led as an opportunity to share workplace learning experiences.

Small group and one to one sessions (20 x 2hr slots = 40hrs at each level) will be used to give students more active learning enabling individual workplace environments to be discussed through small group seminars of students with similar workplaces and one to one consultation time with the module tutor.

Directed and independent study (252hrs) Guided reading will underpin students? assessment, reflective journal and workplace learning. Students will be expected to carry out library research, intranet research, work placement observation, make entries in their working journal and their professional development portfolio and use professional practice personnel appropriately as a resource for learning.


Work based learning: between 200 and 252 hours.
This will involve the observation and interaction with professionals and service users, interviews,, reflective practice and applying learning to own practice.

Module Indicative Content
This module provides the opportunity for students to apply theoretical learning in a work setting. Students must complete 200 hours of work experience over two years.



Level 2:
1. Analysis of the social context of the service users and staff in the workplace.

2. The value and critical analysis of empowering practice in the workplace.

3. The process of assessment of need and risk for a service user.

4. Professional development during course and in the workplace.

5. Critical analysis of own use of interpersonal and communication skills in the workplace

6. Critical analysis of the application of theory to practice in the workplace

7. Critical analysis of antidiscriminatory practice in the workplace by self and others.

8. Critical analysis of the application of law related to social care in the workplace
