INDICATIVE CONTENT
This module is designed to facilitate the completion of the ASYE process. The material provided will assist the candidate to further develop reflective, critical, analytical and evaluation skills. They will be required to draw on experience of being a qualified social worker to date, reflecting on their supported journey into the profession, and exploring the development of social work values, theoretical perspectives, and knowledge of the specialist area(s) that they have worked within.
The ASYE is based on the Professional Capabilities Framework (PCF) for social work, of which it forms a part. The ASYE candidate will be assessed holistically in the workplace throughout the year and across the breadth of the PCF Domains. The expectation is that the knowledge and skills
gained through qualifying education will be consolidated in the first year of practice, and that specialist knowledge and skills will be developed in relation to the employment setting and service user group. There will be on-going formative assessment throughout the year with formalised review points as detailed by the Learning Agreement.
There will be Direct Observations of the candidate‘s practice in different settings and the candidate will be required to reflect on their learning over the year.
At the end of the ASYE programme, candidates will be required to produce a portfolio of evidence, and participate in a professional discussion (Viva Voce). The portfolio provides evidence of the successful completion of an assessed programme of learning in the workplace. The Viva voce will evaluate the student’s ability to reflect on, analyse and make critical judgements about their practice, and to demonstrate their ability to holistically meet the PCF at ASYE level. It will meet the requirements of the national assessment that all newly qualified social workers should undergo at the end of their ASYE.
