Candidates should be a qualified social worker (this means most will be qualified to degree level) where this does not involve degree level study other evidence of the candidate's ability to work at this level needs to be provided and assessed.

Module Indicative Content
This module will enable students to develop and enhance their existing professional support skills in order to meet the recommendations of the Social Work Reform Board for Assessors and the guidance from the College of Social Work and Skills for Care. Students will cover:
The contemporary framework for social work education and qualification.
This aspect of the teaching will cover the continuum of social work education and training, the concept of professionalism in social work, the Social Work Reform Board recommendations, changes to the systems in place, the Professional Capabilities Framework and Continuous Professional Development.
The role of support in the facilitation of learning in professional practice
This will provide an overview of adult learning theory, focussing predominantly on experiential learning and situated learning approaches. Synthesising this theory with supporting the development of professional practice will provide the basis for this session. Topics that will be covered include:
- The role of regular supervision - a frequency has been proposed in the ASYE detailed proposals paper and in the Social Work Reform Board Standards for Employers and Supervision Framework.
- The theory and frameworks for the development of professional development plans
- The theory and frameworks for the creation of adequate time for learning and development.
Module Additional Assessment Details
The candidate will need to be responsible for supporting the professional assessment of a qualified social worker for a minimum period of six months.
They will be assessed in practice, which will involve two direct observations of practice (generally two supervision sessions). The assessment will be against the module learning outcomes.
A Portfolio of evidence will be submitted which will comprise the following components :
1. A Reflective account assessed against the module learning outcomes - 2500 words (Graded) - This will be a written reflection on one of the supervision sessions that was observed. (all LO's)
2. An Assessor's report (detailing direct observations against the learning outcomes 1-6). (Pass/Fail)
3. Feedback from the Social Worker who undertook the support (contributing to LO2) - (Pass/Fail)
Students must pass all elements of assessment to pass the module
