Module Indicative Content
The module is mapped to the experienced social worker level capabilities within the professional capabilities framework (PCF) for registered social workers. It will provide an detailed understanding of the issues involved in advanced practice within social work settings before proceeding to explore the components of such practice, in particular, investigating key concepts of best practice and associated notions of strategic workload management, practical skills and problem solving.
Research studies on the development of advanced social work practice will be used and the module will review different methods and styles of social work and identify what makes a effective practitioner. It will consider the importance of placing specialist professional development within a holistic framework using concepts of the social work setting as a learning organisation.
It will discuss the key factors required by such an organisation's infrastructure to foster social worker¿s learning and development, consider the relationship of a professional¿s work to the types of establishment organisation and cultures that can best support them and the professional learning and development of social work professionals.
Module Additional Assessment Details
(3000 WORDS)
An article or briefing paper based on a set of publication guidelines, weighted at 60%, assessing LO's 1, 3 and 5 and a 20 minute presentation of the key points of the written work, weighted at 40%, assessing LO's 2, 3 and 4
The aim of the assignment is to produce work that contributes to the development of knowledge and promotion of excellence in their field based on evidence-informed practice.
Students must pass both elements in order to complete this module.

Scheduled Learning and Teaching Activities: (10)
Learning time at the university will be 2 days x 3 hours, and 1 day x 4 hours = 10 hours
This will include the following approaches to support and enhance learning:
5 hours Seminar Input and Lectures
4 hours small group work and reflexive discussion
1 hour assignment workshop
Guided Independent Study Hours: (140)
20 hours Reading/reflection/work based time between taught days is 4 periods x 5hrs
120 hours Work on assignments to include Blackboard supported learning in preparation for formative assignment and discussion forums
