Module Additional Assessment Details
The formative assessment will be a small 15 minute overview of your case study presented to your peers during the local authority seminars. Your peers will then provide constructive feedback on the presentation content.

The assessment for this module will be a presentation of a case study of your choice from your practice setting. You will present this for a duration of 30 minutes
(weighted at 50%). You will present to a panel of representatives consisting of academics, practitioners and service users. Your peers will also be observing your presentation.

A viva voce of 20 minutes duration with a panel of academics, service users and practitioners. (50% weighting).

Both will assess all the learning outcomes and both need to be passed to successfully complete this module.

Module Indicative Content
You will analyse the concept of risk in society including models and theories of decision-making in addition to professional, ethical and legal dimensions of decision-making, managing risk and uncertainty and risk management strategies.
There will be a critical appraisal of emerging research relating to decision making, risk and uncertainty. There will be a focus on the application of risk assessment and management to safeguarding contexts.
You will analyse issues to do with managing risk to vulnerable service users and to yourself as a professional working within an organisation and a legal and policy framework.
You will be provided with the opportunity to apply theory to practice in through case studies and simulations.
Module Learning Strategies
The Learning strategy for this module requires you to commit to 300 hours study including assessment. This will include:

Whole Group sessions (56 hours) consisting of participatory lectures and presentations by visiting speakers in order to disseminate core knowledge and theoretical perspectives including Service User experience. Including two facilitated workshops in each local authority.

Directed study and independent learning (244) This will be involve you being guided to key texts and research articles on the Virtual Learning Environment (Black Board). You will be expected to conduct independent enquiries and maintain a contemporaneous learning journal. There will be additional tutorial support available for you to address queries about module content or issues relating to the assessment.
