Indicative Content
Upon successful completion of this module, candidates will be equipped to carry out assessment and support of registered social workers undertaking post graduate awards from newly qualified professionals to experienced social workers.
The content of the module includes:
- The contemporary framework for social work education and qualification
- The facilitation of assessment and support within professional social work practice.
- how to support and assess professionals in developing reflective practice,
- the personal qualities and skills needed to be effective in the role of supporting professional development. This will include considering the conditions that will ensure effectiveness, and developing effective communication, both verbal and non-verbal, and giving effective feedback.
- consideration of the distinctions between line management, coaching, mentoring, counselling and advice giving,
- a range of models and tools for assisting people in their professional development,
- identifying and maintaining appropriate professional boundaries through contracting and the consideration of ethical issues,
- learning styles and preferences,
- assessment of work-based learning to include identifying and analysing the role in relation to assessment, objectivity and evidence-based assessment.
Assessment Details
The assessment process includes:
• Summative assessment: A critically reflective account of a candidate’s practice assessed against the module learning outcomes. The critique should incorporate learning from the course and employ a reflective style, including self-challenge and objectives for future
development -4,000 words (meets All LO’s). 100% weighting
• Formative assessment: Prepare an assignment plan for feedback

Special Admissions Requirements
Candidates should be qualified and registered (HCPC) social workers and will normally have completed a Practice Educator award to stage 2 and/or have experience of supervisory or middle management roles.

Demonstrate a systematic understanding and application of knowledge which is at the forefront of current social work professional practice in relation to workplace support and holistic assessment of social workers and the relationship to the Professional Capabilities Framework (PCF) and Knowledge and Skills statement for Adults and Children and Families (KSS).

4. Demonstrate the application of knowledge required to manage the practitioner’s learning and assessment environment whilst ensuring the maintenance of the quality of service provision in social work.
