MODULE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1. On completion of this module you will be able to demonstrate critical application of the Knowledge and Skills Statements (KSS) for Social Work in practice.
2. On completion of this module, you will be able to critically reflect on areas for development within your own practice.
3. On completion of this module, you will be able to identify and analyse the frameworks for continued professional development in line with professional regulation.
MODULE ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT DETAILS
Summative assessment:
You will submit a portfolio evidencing your professional development within your Assessed and Supported Year in Employment. The portfolio includes the following elements:
- Continuing Professional Development Mandatory Training Record
- Direct Observations
- Evidence Statements and critical reflections relating to the Knowledge and Skills Statements (KSS) and the - Professional Capabilities Framework (PCF) and critical reflections
- Management Endorsement Report
Your portfolio needs to provide evidence that you have met the requirements of the Professional Capabilities Framework at the Newly Qualified Social Worker level.
The portfolio will be submitted as one complete piece of work. If an individual element fails, then an amended portfolio will be submitted on the re-submission date.
MODULE INDICATIVE CONTENT
This module is practice based. Each candidate will embark on their Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE) in line with their employers’ policy. The employer will provide the framework, training courses, supervision and support to meet the assessed elements of the portfolio. The university is responsible for the ratification of the portfolio to ensure that each Learning Outcome is met.
There is no scheduled teaching in this module as outlined below and the candidate will access the Assessed and Supported Year in Employment framework provided as part of their job.
WEB DESCRIPTOR
This module is designed for those completing their Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE). This module in run in collaboration with the candidates employer who will provide the training, supervision and support to each individual. The university is responsible for the verification of each assessed portfolio. On successful completion of the module, the candidate will have completed their ASYE and will be ready to move into the next phase of their professional development. This module will be accessible to students who hold a social work qualification and are practising in a social work role.
MODULE LEARNING STRATEGIES
Direct Practice Training and Supervision Framework: 70 hours employer led training and development;
Provided in partnership with the student’s employers to include;
-Mandatory Training Sessions
- Optional Training Sessions
- Individual supervision and mentoring opportunity
- Group supervision
Scheduled teaching and learning activities: 20 hours
Delivered by university staff covering topics such as
- academic skills
- portfolio building
- reflective writing
- critical thinking in practice
Directed Independent Study: 110 hours
To consist of;
- Accessing online resources such as Webinars, podcasts etc relevant to the module
- A range of practice and research-based materials supporting professional development will be available through the Blackboard VLE
- Independent reading consolidating knowledge explored and developed in practice

MODULE RESOURCES
During this module you will receive training and support via your employer to enable you to meet the Learning Outcomes for your assessed portfolio. You will be encouraged to utilise Microsoft Teams and Blackboard Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) to support your learning. You will have access to a range of materials on Blackboard VLE including articles, research and interactive activities. You will also be able to access a variety of digital material through our Library and specialist databases.
MODULE SPECIAL ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS
In line with guidance from Social Work England you will need to hold a social work qualification in order to enrol on this module.
