Module Additional Assessment Details
All elements must be passed.
1. Plan, carry out and evaluate four coaching sessions, to peers or others, in at least 2 sports. Peer observations should be included in the evaluation of one of the sessions. Ways to improve must be included. LO 3 (weighted 40%)
2. You are required to coach for at least 8 hours. One of the sessions must include at least a 1 hour observed and graded session by a Lecturer. Produce a coaching diary including your role and responsibilities as a coach, all of the sessions plans and evaluation of plans, for sessions carried out. Include evaluations of four sessions given by experienced coaches, in more than one sport, and observed by you. LO 1, 2 & 4 (weighted 60%)
Additional Assessment Details
Formative assessment will include handing in the coaching plans, for assignment one, at set dates through the semester, to enable formative feedback to be given.
While the first assignment is completed in the first semester students will be expected to continue coaching and observing others in order that they can complete the diary requirements, in semester 2.
Module Indicative Content
This module allows students to further develop their skills in coaching by examining the techniques and strategies that they would need to become successful coaches in a range of sports. Classes will include development of reflection and evaluation skills. They will plan and deliver coaching sessions and evaluate their own and peer performance recording ways in which they can improve their practice. Student will further complete 8 hours of coaching. While completing these sessions they will evaluate performance of the participants they are coaching. They will develop skills to observe and evaluate experienced coaches.
Module Learning Strategies
3 hours per week for 24 weeks
Specify the number of independent study hours attributed to each type of activity (eg reading / assessment preparation). Total hours should equate to Independent Study Hours identified on page 1 of this form.
24 hours of reading to support lectures
36 hours to carry out coaching sessions and observe experienced coaches
12 hours peer observation
24 hours for preparation for formative assessment
48 hours for preparation for summative assessment
84 hours student led independent study: Including internet searching and reading, library searching and reading.
228 hours total
