Module Details
LEARNING OUTCOMES
1. To provide an understanding the key concepts of sports development and how they have evolved within the uk (Knowledge and Understanding, Reflection)

2. Show an insight into an individual’s pathway options and the careers available within sports development in the uk (Communication, Knowledge and Undertstanding)

3. To understand the policies used by the government and sports development providers which will reflect on the approaches made by different governments (Analysis, Learning)

4. To analyse the impact of the 2012 olympic games and the concept of the `olympic legacy'

ASSESSMENT DETAILS
Planning and writing of a 1500 word essay that will focus on the general topics associated with sports development within the UK. The essay will require analytical skills and an understanding of the effects of sports development and knowledge of career pathways within the industry. (50%) assessing LO's 1 and 2

A one hour seen exam which will covers aspects of sports policy. (50%) assessing LO's 3 and 4

All Elements of assessment must be passed.

Additional Assessment Details (include formative feedback / assessment):
Feedback on knowledge and understanding will be given during seminar sessions. Students will be expected to complete a short formative test during the year and complete a non-assessed presentation on one of the topics within the module.
INDICATIVE CONTENT
Within the development area, the growth of sport and recreation within the UK will be studied. This will include Government influence, the policies associated with sports development and the key concepts involved with providing `Sport for All'. Barriers to participation and current trends within sport will be included. Opportunities to gain a greater understanding of the role of sports development within the employment sector will be discussed. The main focus will be on sport and policy within the UK; however international examples when appropriate will be examined to compare and contrast with UK policy and initiatives. Current trends and provision for young people in sport and exercise will be included. Pathways for performance and vocational opportunities will be researched and discussed.
