Module Details
INDICATIVE CONTENT
This module allows you to explore sports coaching in a variety of settings but with a focus on increasing participation. Working with a variety of participants from a range of diverse backgrounds will provide you with a unique opportunity to utilise a range of important practical skills to allow all learners to make progress within their session. You will have the opportunity to work with partners to gain some experience of the coaching industry in practice. You then have the opportunity to demonstrate what they have learnt in the form of practical coaching session and personal reflection.


You will focus on differentiation, questioning and practical delivery within the coaching module. By the end of the module you will have practical experience and the opportunity to deliver whilst undertaking a critical reflective process to enhance and improve your coaching.
ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT DETAILS
Assessment 1 – Students deliver a practical sports coaching session to a group of participants. Concentrating on organisation, safety, instruction and questioning. (LO 1)


Assessment 2 – Reflect on a coaching session and practical experience discussing clearly areas of strength and areas for future development. (LO2)
LEARNING STRATEGIES
This module incorporates a tutor-lead lecture programme and practical sessions, however, student-lead coaching with the tutor facilitating will be a theme throughout the module. Students will be required to conduct tutor-directed independent study, as well as student-lead enquiry and reading into research around the sport coaching topics covered in the module. Students are highly encouraged to observe experienced coaches in a sport/range of sports and assist a coach where appropriate to further develop their knowledge, skills and understanding of sport coaching. Specific formative assessment, reading and preparatory tasks will need to be completed prior to the summative assessment.

1. Demonstrate an understanding of coaching principles and how to cater for a range of different practical abilities.

2. Reflect and analyse on coaching practice undertaken

WEB DESCRIPTOR
Students will have the opportunity to develop a range of practical coaching skills, reflective practice and work based learning. Combining practical experience with theoretical concepts will enhance the students coaching provision. Partners will support this module and allow students to observe and support within a practical environment.
