INDICATIVE CONTENT
This sport and exercise science module covers a range of BASES endorsed disciplines including sports psychology, physiology and biomechanics. These disciplines are essential within all aspects of sports including coaching, therapy, and strength and conditioning. The module allows for students to experience chunks of different sport science content and consider how this applies when working with athletes and participants, providing a broad overview and allowing students to specialise as they move into level four.
ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT DETAILS
Assessment 1 – multiple choice exam looking to assess students’ knowledge on sports psychology (LO 1, 2 & 3)
Assessment 2 – multiple choice exam looking to assess students’ knowledge on physiology and movement analysis (LO 1, 2 & 3)
LEARNING STRATEGIES
This module incorporates a tutor-lead lecture programme and practical sessions. The utilisation of podcast technology will be a key element to this module. Immersion and simulation technology will be utilised to provide cutting edge experience in order to allow students the best learning opportunities and experience. Online learning tools will be utilised to support the delivery of the module, to communicate with students and to provide an area for online submission of assessments.
Formative assessment will be used within the module to provide support for students and to aid academic development. Industry leading facilities will be used throughout the module to provide students with a unique experience to enhance their knowledge and development.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
1. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of a variety of aspects that contribute to modern sports science
2. Understand how to apply key theoretical principles to develop performance.
3. Analyse a range of performance metrics and the role they play in assessing health and performance.
RESOURCES
Appropriately and adequately equipped lecture theatre (with internet connectivity)
Simulation and Immersion technology
Appropriately and adequately equipped facilities for the practical activity to be undertaken (typically AstroTurf pitch or sports hall)
Appropriately and adequately stocked library facilities
