ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT DETAILS
In this assessment students will complete a research project, investigating an element of physical activity or sport that they have an interest in. The students must consider their method and provide suitable results.
Formative assessment will form a key aspect of preparing students for their summative assessment. All students will receive a formative assessment opportunity as part of the module.
INDICATIVE CONTENT
Investigating physical activity and sport allows students to tailor their course as they look to explore topics of interest. Set up to replicate a small-scale research project, the module looks to include a range of valuable research skills whilst being encompassed in something the students are directly interested in. The module looks to be innovative and engaging as partners support the opportunity by providing live action research projects. The module develops and enhances a range of important employability skills, including organisation, planning and data analysis.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
1. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of a variety of aspects that contribute to modern sports science
Learning Outcome: Knowledge and understanding, Research
2. Communicate effectively a range of theoretical principles of sports science that aid the performance and health of participants
Learning Outcome: Communication, Application and Problem and Solving
3. Analyse a range of performance metrics and the role they play in assessing health and performance.
Learning Outcome: Critical reasoning and Collaboration, Digital Literacy
LEARNING STRATEGIES
On this module, you will learn through a blend of research-focused workshops, guided independent study and applied project work. You will be supported to design and manage a small-scale research project, developing skills in planning, data collection and analysis. Workshops will introduce key research methods and ethical considerations, while partner supported live projects will provide authentic learning experiences. You will work independently and collaboratively, receiving regular formative feedback to help you refine your approach. Reflection and review activities will support your ability to evaluate your progress and develop transferable skills relevant to employment and further study.
RESOURCES
Appropriately and adequately equipped lecture theatre (with internet connectivity)
Simulation and Immersion technology
Appropriately and adequately equipped facilities for the practical activity to be undertaken (typically AstroTurf pitch or sports hall)
