Module Details
Module Learning Strategies
Learners will follow a thirty week guided programme of study.

Direct contact: 90 Hours over 30 weeks. It is envisaged that 2 hours per week will be dedicated to practical and 1 hour per week to the theoretical requirements of the module.

Independent Study Hours: 210 Hours. During this time students will compile the evidence for the 3 assessments, spend time observing and working with other development officers and conducting research on relevant topic areas to further their knowledge of best practice.

Module Indicative Content
This module will
- Discuss the Sports Development continuum from foundation to excellence including the Sports Development model involving active communities, active sports, world class and active schools.

- review of the barriers that exist to participation and the groups within society that are targeted through Sports Development.

- Investigate the main providers of Sports Development from a National perspective through to regional, voluntary, Private and professional providers.
- investigate the roles of providers in enabling and facilitating provision, direct delivery, strategy development, operational and advisory roles, participation and performance.
- Determine the methods used in Sports Development to ensure quality of delivery.
- Research the role of quality measurement procedures such as Quest, Investors in people, charter mark, club mark, internal assessment, external audits and NGB schemes.
- Current contemporary initiatives in Sports Development will be investigated in this learning outcome. Private sector and local authority programmes will be covered.
Module Additional Assessment Details
Students will be required to complete 3 pieces of summative assessment

1. To submit a written assignment (1500 words) detailing the organisation and structure of Sports Development in the UK. This assignment would cover the theoretical content of learning outcomes 1 and 2. This would be worth 40% of the module grade.
2. Through the production of a 1000 word report, students are to detail how measurement procedures are used to ensure the quality of sports development provision. This report would cover learning outcome 3 and would be worth 30% of the module grade.
3. To deliver a 10 minute presentation, highlighting the impact of two current Sports Development initiatives on identified target groups in society in the UK, and the benefits associated with the initiative. This presentation would investigate learning outcomes1 and 4 and would be worth 30% of the module grade.

Students will be provided with formative assessment and feedback throughout the module via task related feedback.
