Module Indicative Content
This unit provides an introduction to the key issues in exercise psychology, and the key psychological factors that influence performance and participation in sport. It identifies various psychological skills and training methods that can be employed to enhance performance. Learners are required to prepare for and undertake an in class test. They also produce an essay covering the psychological factors affecting optimal sports performance, and how contemporary sport and exercise psychology can be applied through the use of psychological intervention strategies in order to improve performance.

1 x 1 hour in class test covering outcome 1 & 2
1 x 1000 word essay covering outcomes 3 & 4

Formative Feedback
Informal feedback will be given to individual students throughout the unit. In addition, specific feedback will be given via the tutor/student led presentations and workshop sessions.

Students are also invited to tutorials following the assessment of submitted work.

This unit links with the practical sports performance unit where additional feedback will be given.
