Module Details
LEARNING OUTCOMES
1. Demonstrate knowledge of the underlying concepts and principles associated with theories in sport management, the organisation of sport, the development of sport policy and the current government initiatives in sport. (sg1,sg2,sg3, sg7, sg9, sg10) (Knowledge and Understanding, Learning)

2. Understand, interpret and evaluate the contribution that policy analysis can make to the study of sport (sg9, sg10) (Analysis, Application, Knowledge and Understanding)

3. Demonstrate a knowledge of the main methods of enquiry used in policy analysis (sg9).

4. Demonstrate an ability to communicate sports management and policy concepts and research effectively (sg4, sg5, sg8) (Application, Communication, Problem Solving)
ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT DETAILS
There are two elements of assessment

1. A SEEN EXAM length 90 Mins weighted at 50%. Assessing LO's 1 and 4

2. An ESSAY length 1500 words weighted at 50%. Assessing all LO's

Additional Assessment Details (include formative feedback / assessment):
Students will sit a mock examination prior to the module examination. To facilitate understanding of the requirements of the final examination feedback on the mock examination will be provided through tutor led discussion in a group setting, allowing two way discussion and clarification

A group presentation based upon the essay content will provide an opportunity for formative feedback in preparation for the essay.

INDICATIVE CONTENT
The module introduces the student to the study of UK sports policy and management. It includes an overview of:

1. Macro- and meso- levels of policy analysis - the policy process, the use of power and how policy has been analysed.
2. The organisation and administration of sport - who is involved and what role they play.
3. Sport policy and party politics - government involvement and interventions in sport and physical activity.
4. Sport, physical activity and health policy - government policies / institution and relationships between departments.
5. Contemporary government policy: examples of current policies and programmes.Comparisons to sport policy of other countries.
6. Principles of sport event planning.
7. The sport event marketing process and promotional methods
8. Sport volunteer management.
9. Sport event or project funding principles and sources.
10. Sport project evaluation.
