Module Indicative Content
The module aims to provide students with an introduction to (1) the knowledge in the key aspects relating to football coaching; (2) the knowledge and ability to carry out a range of athlete assessment methods used to inform coaching practice (3) the knowledge to demonstrate ability to plan and deliver safe and effective coaching sessions and (4) the knowledge of the techniques for monitoring and evaluating individual coaching performance and athlete improvement and how to develop coaching for the future.
The specific content with the module will include
1. The role of a football coach.
2. Planning effective football coaching sessions.
3. Assessing football performance (technical, physiological, psychological, tactical).
4. Professional values of football coaches. (Equality and diversity, safeguarding Etc).
5. Coaching styles.
6. Learning styles.
7. Policies & Ethics within football coaching.
8. Delivery of a range of football coaching sessions (goalkeeping, defenders, midfielders, attackers).
9. Reviewing developments made by football players.
Module Learning Strategies
Learners will follow a thirty week guided programme of study.
Scheduled Learning and Teaching Activities: (90 hours) 90 Hours over 30 weeks.
It is envisaged that 2 hours per week be dedicated to coaching activity and coaching development and 1 hour per week to the theoretical requirements of the module.
Guided Independent Study: (210 Hours)
60 hours background reading,
60 hours assessment planning and coaching planning
90 hours assessment writing and coaching plan preparation

Assessment Detail
Assessment 1
1500 word report to meet LO's 1, 2 and 4. This will focus upon learners choice of the key aspects linked to football coaching & the assessment of footballers. This is worth 50% of the module grade.
Assessment 2
You will be assessed in two formal coaching sessions. One assessed session will be based on a skill practice (such as dribbling with the ball); the second session will be a small sided game focusing on one specific topic (such as creating opportunities to score). Subject lecturer shall provide a formal summative observation of the 2 formally assessed coaching sessions. Session plans and evaluations must be submitted. This is worth 50% of the module grade and assesses LO 3.
Additional Assessment Details (include formative feedback / assessment):
Students will receive formative feedback throughout the module comprising a combination of task related feedback.
Staff shall also be available for consultation with learners regarding assignment drafts, planning of coaching sessions & may provide seminars for further support.
All elements of assessment, including any reflective work, must be supported by references to appropriate literature and referenced according to appropriate academic conventions within APA style.
Students will be required to deliver an oral presentation (Maximum ten minutes) on the evaluations of the player's development during the module. The presentation should contain quantitative statistics in terms of the progressions shown by the footballers. Attendance at this event is compulsory and helps the student to reflect on their development as a coach.
