A COACHING PRACTICAL AND WRITTEN COACHING EVALUATION weighted at 50%.
A CLASS TEST weighted at 50%.

Students will be required to complete 2 pieces of summative assessment:

1. Conduct and evaluate a short coaching practical. The conduct of a short (e.g. 10 minute) coaching
session to a small group of peers will assess LOs 1 and 2. The subsequent 1000 word written evaluation of the session will assess LOs 1 and 3.

2. Complete a written class test (50 minutes). This will consist of students viewing, analysing and commenting on a series of video clips drawn from invasion games sports undertaken during the module. Typically students will be asked to analyse and comment upon individual techniques, skills and simple tactical situations. (assessing LOs 4 and 5)

Additional Assessment Details (including formative feedback / assessment:
Students will be provided with formative assessment and feedback via opportunities to practice playing and coaching various sports during practical sessions. In addition, opportunities will exist to observe and analyse playing and coaching scenarios from video (in lectures) and during practical sessions.
Module Indicative Content
The module initially aims to provide students with an introduction to the coaching and teaching process and the opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills in coaching and teaching groups and individuals. Principles of effective planning, organising. reflecting and conducting coaching sessions will be covered and introduced in lectures and further developed in practical sessions. In addition, students will be introduced to risk management issues that affect coaches and coaching sessions.

The second part of the module has an exclusive focus on invasion games. Currently these are anticipated to be football, rugby, hockey and basketball. The module aims to provide students with an introduction to basic techniques ( e.g. Passing, dribbling, shooting/scoring etc) and principles of play or tactics (e.g. Support play, balance in defence, penetration in attack etc) in team invasion games. The application of these techniques and principles in a variety of team games will be considered. The application of a variety of appropriate and effective coaching/teaching techniques will be applied in the team games setting.
