Indicative Content
The module follows on from the Semester 1 Coaching and Teaching in Sport (15 Credit) module, however, this 15 credit aspect has an exclusive focus on individual sports.
Currently these are anticipated to be swimming, athletics and badminton. The module aims to provide students with an introduction to basic techniques associated with each sport (and tactics where applicable). Basic theoretical principles underpinning movement and safety in each sport will also be covered. The module will also focus on the application of the principles of coaching, teaching and instruction to the three sports being studied.
Assessment Details
A COACHING PORTFOLIO (1500 words) including a movement analysis of a swimming stroke, athletics technique and badminton shot weighted at 50%. (assessing LOs 1,2 and 3)
Additional Assessment Details (including formative feedback / assessment:
Students will be provided with formative assessment and feedback via opportunities to practice observing the various sports undertaken during practical and lecture sessions, plus material on Blackboard.

Contact Hours: (36) A tutor-led lecture programme and tutor/ student led practical sessions. Typically there will be 12 hrs of contact on each of the 3 individual sports. Independent Study Hours: (114) 20 hours tutor-directed independent study 24 hours student-led independent study into research and reading around sports and coaching topics covered 25 hours observing experienced coaches in an individual sport(s) of your choice 25 hours assisting an experienced coach in an individual sport(s) of your choice 20 hours student-led independent study into assessment preparation
