Module Details
Indicative Content
This module has an exclusive focus on football coaching. The module aims to provide students with an introduction to basic football techniques (e.g. passing, dribbling, shooting/scoring, etc.) and principles of play or tactics (e.g. support play, balance in defence, penetration in attack, etc.) in games. The application of these techniques and principles in a variety of situations and contexts will be considered. Furthermore, specific coaching pathways and qualifications for each sport delivered will be disseminated. The application of a variety of appropriate and effective coaching/teaching techniques will be applied in the team games setting.

Assessment Details
1. Complete a written class test (50 minutes). This will consist of students viewing, analysing and commenting on a series of video clips drawn from football games. Typically, students will be asked to analyse and comment upon individual techniques, skills and simple tactical situations. This will assess LOs 1, 2 and 3, and be 100% of the module’s assessment. [FINAL]

Additional Assessment Details (include formative feedback / assessment):
Students will be provided with formative assessment and feedback via opportunities to practice playing and coaching football during practical sessions. In addition, opportunities will exist to observe and analyse playing and coaching scenarios from video (in lectures) and during practical sessions

Learning Strategies
This module incorporates a tutor-lead lecture programme and practical sessions, however, at times student-lead sessions with the tutor facilitating will be utilised. Students will be required to  conduct tutor-directed independent study, as well as student-lead enquiry and reading into research around sports and coaching topics covered in the module. Students will have to observe experienced football coaches and assist an experienced coach to further develop their skills, knowledge and understanding of football coaching. Student-lead independent study will be required specifically for assessment preparation.
