Module Details
INDICATIVE CONTENT
The module covers a wide curriculum of academic and professional skills, capabilities and knowledge needed for employment within the sports industry or further study. Students will be encouraged to be the owner of their own success through a supportive learning activities and independent study to embed skills and capabilities that are the foundation for learning and personal development. In semester 1 the module will cover self-efficacy, personalising learning, stress management, as well as more traditional topics such as searching for literature, referencing and citation, reading and note-taking and critical thinking. During semester 2 the content will focus on personal and professional development through reflection students will review the skills and qualities they already possess, with reference to how they relate to those skills and attributes regarded as crucial for research and critical by employers. The skills assessment will inform future goal setting and life career plans.

As part of growing your foundation of knowledge of the sports industry, you will discover the organisation and administration of sport - who is involved and what role they play, as well as gaining knowledge of current sport initiatives developing participation by special populations and social objectives through sport.

LEARNING STRATEGIES
The module consists of a series of tutor-lead workshops that will include bitesize lectures and interactive practical workshops to learn and develop new capabilities, skills and experience. This approach will enable students to learn and practice in succession, embedding knowledge in a more streamlined approach. These sessions will also include guest speakers from academic skills, careers network, sport industry professionals. Academic mentoring will also form a key part of the module supporting students to form purposeful personal and professional plans throughout their learning journey. They will also provide a key opportunity for pastoral support. Independent study forms an integral part in reinforcing learning. This will be supported by formative and summative assessments.
