INDICATIVE CONTENT
The Academic and Employability Skills in Sport and Exercise module is designed to develop the communication skills required for successful work production throughout University. It will, therefore, set the standards and expectations but will also enable you to apply these skills in context-specific assessments in sport and exercise. The module is centred on the reflection of your personal and professional skills and qualities so as to inform their future employment prospects in a career of their choosing.
ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT DETAILS
1) A 1500 word essay on a subject chosen by you. This essay will be the foremost opportunity to apply the early academic skills learned as part of the module and which will underpin your studentship. You will be enabled to apply these skills to a subject of their interest. Weighted at 60% of the overall module mark assessing LOs 2 and 3.
2) A 10 minute Individual presentation that reflects on personal and professional capabilities. In doing so, you will be enabled to scrutinise their skills and qualities and apply these to the requirements of the sport and exercise industry. The presentation will include time for Q+A, Weighted at 40% of the overall module mark assessing LOs 1, 3 and 4. time will be required for Q+A that will contribute towards the mark give.
LEARNING STRATEGIES
This module contains a combination of face to face, personal tutoring and the use of a range of enhanced digital pedagogical approaches to support learning. Lectures and seminars will be interactive and require full participation utilising a inquiry based teaching style. Some seminars will be student led and facilitated by the lecturer. Independent study tasks will be set but further independent study will be required. This may include reading around module topics, discussion based activities or investigating current theory and practice associated with the module. Student led independent study will be required specifically for assessment preparation.

1. Demonstrate knowledge of a range of skills and qualities required for effective learning and employment or further study.
2. Utilise inquiry-based learning and analysis to develop academic writing skills.
3. Prepare, write and present in the appropriate format.
4. Identify personal strengths and skills gaps following reflection.

You will attend a series of lectures and interactive student-centred seminars, which will include the appreciation and development of CV writing, study skills, employability skills, self and career management guidance. In particular, you will review the skills and qualities you already possess, with reference to how they relate to those skills and attributes regarded as crucial for research and critical by employers.
