INDICATIVE CONTENT
This module covers key aspects of the PE National Curriculum sporting activities except the invasion games. These are covered in another module (Coaching and Teaching in Sport).
The module will cover the major aspects of technique applicable to swimming, athletics and dance. Basic theoretical principles underpinning movement and safety will be covered in respect of each activity. The module will also focus on the application of the principles of teaching, coaching and instruction to the three activities being covered.
Due to the necessity of the national curriculum the sports on offer, provide a wide range of opportunities to further develop and enhance your employability skills.
ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT DETAILS
There is one piece of summative assessment that comprises three components.
Complete a coaching movement analysis portfolio that includes:
A movement analysis exercise will be performed on one specific technique in swimming, athletics and dance (assessing LOs 1, 2 and 3).
Additional Assessment Details (including formative feedback / assessment:
This form of assessment can be undertaken in video format in a classroom and in a field setting during practical sessions, hence formative feedback would be a normal part of a weekly session. The skill would be practiced at regular intervals during contact hours.
LEARNING STRATEGIES
This module incorporates a tutor-lead lecture programme and practical sessions. You will be required to conduct tutor-directed independent study, as well as student-lead enquiry and reading into research around physical education and associated sports and individual activities. You will participate in these activities as well as work collaboratively to reflect on various techniques in each sport, culminating with an assessment of a movement in each sport.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
1. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the key features of good technique in Swimming, Athletics and Dance.
2. Apply basic theoretical principles to the analysis of Swimming, Athletics and Dance.
3. Analyse and correctly identify faults and apply appropriate corrective practices in Swimming, Athletics and Dance.

The Teaching and Coaching PE National Curriculum Activities module will provide you with the knowledge and understanding of three sports that are commonplace in the National Curriculum for PE. Through engaging with practical and theoretical content, you will conduct movement analyses of various techniques within each sport/activity so as to demonstrate and provide an opportunity to resemble typical assessments required in PE teaching and coaching settings.
