ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT DETAILS
Summative
The assessment will be a practical coaching session, and students will be asked to deliver a ten-minute coaching session that will challenge the students to reflect on their own gaps in knowledge and preconceived bias (PLO7). As a result, students will need to devise appropriate, evidence-based solutions to ensure inclusivity (PLO2) and to respond to real-life challenges (PLO3).
Formative
Formative assessment will form a key aspect of preparing students for their summative assessment. All students will receive a formative assessment opportunity as part of the module.
INDICATIVE CONTENT
This module introduces students to the principles and practices of inclusive coaching within contemporary sport and physical activity settings. Students will explore the social, psychological and environmental factors that influence participation, with a focus on recognising and responding to individual needs. Key themes include models of inclusion, legislation and policy that shape inclusive practice, and the role of the coach as a facilitator of positive, accessible experiences. Through case studies and applied tasks, students will examine barriers to participation, evaluate strategies that promote equitable learning environments, and review current research that informs inclusive methods. Students will also analyse their own assumptions and decision-making, developing the reflective skills required to identify gaps in knowledge, attitudes and behaviours. Practical workshops will support the design of evidence-based coaching sessions that respond to real-world challenges, preparing students to plan, justify and adapt sessions that meet the needs of diverse participants.

LEARNING STRATEGIES
Learning will be delivered through a blend of interactive lectures, seminars and practical workshops designed to build foundational understanding before applying concepts to real coaching contexts. Students will engage in collaborative problem-solving activities, using real-life scenarios to practise ethical reasoning and decision-making. Case study analysis will support the development of critical thinking, encouraging students to question assumptions, identify biases and evaluate evidence-based approaches to inclusion.
Practical coaching tasks will allow students to experiment with session design, receive formative feedback and refine their ideas in a supportive environment. Guided independent study, including directed reading, multimedia resources and reflective tasks, will help students consolidate their learning and recognise gaps in their knowledge, skills and behaviours. Peer discussion, group reflection and tutor-facilitated debriefs will promote shared learning and enable students to articulate how inclusive principles can be transferred to varied coaching contexts.
