ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT DETAILS
Summative

You are required to produce a written essay which evaluates an aspect of the physical education curriculum. The essay will also include a reflection of teaching and learning approaches for physical education, exploring their use and application for different age groups and ability levels where appropriate. This evaluation will enable you to meaningfully reflect on an area of the NCPE as well as begin to understand the approaches to teaching and learning commonplace in this area of the National Curriculum. The essay should be 1500 words in length and will assess learning outcomes 1 and 2.

It is important that you draw upon some literature throughout the essay.

Formative

Formative assessment will form a key aspect of preparing students for their summative assessment. All students will receive a formative assessment opportunity as part of the module.

In the early part of semester 1, students will cover the requisite expectations of university study, such as searching for literature, academic referencing and professional communication and analytical skills. Thereafter, the module will focus on physical education as a subject studied in primary and secondary education. This will involve exploration of the National Curriculum for Physical Education at various ages, and key stages and consider how teachers teach in these settings.

These sessions will also include guest speakers from academic skills, careers network, and sport industry professionals, such as Physical Educators. Academic mentoring will also form a key part of the module, supporting you to form purposeful personal and professional plans throughout your learning journey, including provision of key opportunities for pastoral support.
