INDICATIVE CONTENT
The module aims to consolidate and review coach education and the different types of learning- formal, informal and non-formal learning, whilst enabling you to apply knowledge and understanding from your own personal learning experiences of coach education (personal development), CPD, as well as the development of your craft (professional practice) and meeting professional standards. The module further provides students with guidance on reflective practice theory, utilising a framework from a select number of reflective frameworks.
ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT DETAILS
Summative
You are required to produce a written essay which reviews your experience of professional development within the sports coaching field. This evaluation will enable you to meaningfully reflect on the role of continued professional development and what you may need to consider for further individual development.¿
It is important that you draw upon some literature throughout the essay.¿¿
Formative
Formative assessment will form a key aspect of preparing students for their summative assessment. All students will receive a formative assessment opportunity as part of the module.
LEARNING STRATEGIES
On this module, you will learn through a combination of interactive seminars, practical workshops and structured reflective activities that help you connect theory to your own coaching experiences. Seminars will introduce key ideas in coach education, professional learning and reflective practice, while workshops will give you the opportunity to apply different reflective frameworks to your own personal and professional development. You will take part in peer discussions where you can share experiences of formal, informal and non-formal learning, helping you to understand and compare different development pathways. Your independent learning will be supported through directed reading, reflective journalling, and personal development planning tasks, enabling you to take responsibility for your development against professional standards. Regular formative feedback will support your confidence, reflection and professional growth throughout the module.
