Module Indicative Content
This module provides students with the opportunity to develop personal communcation and presentation skills, and
to acquire the skills necessary to work effectively in a group (eg, team roles and responsibilities, effective decision making
in groups, working with others). It will also outline skills required for independent study (eg, deep and surface
approaches to learning) and introduce students to methods of critical analysis, reasoning and argumentation.
Potential careers in Sport, Health and Exercise will be outlined to help inform students' module choices at level 3.
The module will also develop the skills necessary for conducting research in Sport, Health and Exercise. These
include reviewing the research process (eg, what makes a good research question, accessing research literature), guidelines for writing a research report, quantitative statistics (eg, t-test, analysis of variance, non parametric statistics), qualitative approaches (eg, content analysis, ethnography, action research), and using appropriate software to analyse data and interpret output.
