Module Additional Assessment Details
Students will be required to complete 3 pieces of summative assessment:
1) 50 minute in-class, short answer, unseen test (assessing LOs 1, 2 & 3), worth 50% of the overall module
2) A 1000 word reflective coursework essay that tasks the student to analyse their own learning and
development as a coach that they experienced during the module (assessing LOs 1, 3 & 4) worth 50% of the module assessment.
3) A Self Declaration of attendance at NGB Coaching course form. This should include course dates attended and details of any authorised absences (if applicable) worth 0% of the module assessment (assessing LO's 1, 2 and 3)
Additional Assessment Details (including formative feedback / assessment:
In addition, as part of their NGB award, students will typically undergo various types of informal & formal assessment primarily centred around planning, organising and conducting short coaching sessions (assessing LO 3), worth 0% of the module assessment. (Such assessments are typically used by NGB's to establish student competence levels for award of level 1 coaching certification).
Module Indicative Content
The module aims to further develop students' knowledge and ability in coaching and teaching. Content will cover various coaching and teaching models, styles and philosophies. Principles of effective teaching and coaching will be considered across a range of sports and in a range of contexts, for example, adapting activities to suit individual needs. Various methods of analysing sports performance, including observation, motion analysis and notation analysis will be covered. Students will also attend one National Governing Body (NGB) level 1 coaching award from a choice of sports these typically being Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Football, Netball, Rugby or Swimming. This will equip students with the opportunity to acquire a valuable, nationally recognised coaching award in a sport of their choice.

10 x 1 hour tutor-led lecture programme
8 x 1 hour tutor-led practical or workshop sessions
An average of 24 hours coach educator-led contact time (dependent on sport chosen) spent completing an NGB level 1 coaching award in a sport chosen by the student
Independent Study Hours: (108)
12 hours tutor-directed independent study
56 hours student-led independent study into research and reading around topics covered
40 hours student-led independent study into assessment preparation
