Module Indicative Content
This module will enable the student to examine the development of modern health policy from a sociological perspective.
The role of social determinants on health will be appraised and the patterns of class, gender, ethnicity, age, housing tenure and relative wealth (among others) will be discussed.
Government health policy for England and Wales will be studied in relation to the impact of evidence of social exclusion such as the Black Report, The Acheson Report and the Wanless Report.

Weekly 1 hour group lecture plus
Weekly 1 hour group seminars
Independent Study Hours: (126) will involve the student in the searching of supporting literature (12 hrs), reading policy documents and supporting literature (65 hrs), completion of independent study tasks set on Blackboard (25 hrs) and assignment preparation (24 hrs)
Module Additional Assessment Details
This module will be summatively assessed with an end of module, 2500 word maximum ESSAY weighted at 100%. (contributes to meeting all LO's)
This will be supported by formative assessments in the form of on-line tasks on blackboard and seminar discussions in class.
