Module Indicative Content
This unit provides a broad introduction to outdoor activities and an understanding of the skills, techniques and knowledge needed to participate in outdoor activities safely and competently. The qualities and uses of different materials and equipment are established. Learners examine the principles of navigation and location in practical settings, and investigate the principles of first aid in the management of emergency situations in outdoor activities. The importance of a conservation ethic and its practical implications for recreational activities is also established. Learners are required to take responsibility as both group leaders and as members of a team, and to produce a module file that contains a diary of activities undertaken and evidence of practical assessments, analysis of performance, and development.
