Module Indicative Content
The module will examine

1. Theories of the UK policy process and identify their application to the development of local sport and leisure policy.
2. Challenges facing UK government and providers of sport and leisure
3. The relationship between central and local government, and Sport England
4. Changing perspectives on the role of sport and leisure at the national, local and community level, with special reference to the target groups identified by Sport England
5. The discipline of sport marketing with specific emphasis upon promotion.
6. The relationship between market planning, the marketing mix and the promotional mix.
7. Market segmentation, communication methods, sponsorship, advertising, imaging, the sport product, branding and the use of semiotics in sport promotion.


Module Additional Assessment Details
There are two elements of assessment, both must be passed.

1. A 1500 word REPORT weighted at 50%. Assessing LO's 1 and 2

2. An ESSAY 2000 words weighted at 50% Assessing LO's 3, 4, 5 and 6

Additional Assessment Details (include formative feedback / assessment):
Throughout the seminars in weeks 1-12 you will have the opportunity to discuss your 1500 word report on a 1:1 basis in order to gain formative feedback.

A group presentation based upon the essay content will provide an opportunity for formative feedback in preparation for the essay.
