Module Learning Strategies
Students will follow a thirty week guided study programme and access support material via the college VLE. The module will consist of 3 hours per week.
The module will include:
Scheduled Learning and Teaching Activities: (90 hours) (3 hours X 30 weeks)
2 hour taught
1 hour seminar discussion per week
Minimum of 150 hours placement
Guided Independent Study: (210 hours)
60 hours background reading,
60 hours assessment planning
90 hours assessment writing
Module Indicative Content
Through negotiation with your module leader and your workplace, you will obtain approval to undertake 150 hours of work experience in a sports development and coaching related environment. Your project must result in constructive recommendations for change for this environment based on your analysis of the current activity.
During this module you will discuss:
- Change and project management principles
- Leadership, communication and influencing skills
- Debate the challenges and opportunities of applying rigorous research to organisational and individual practice and the extent to which this is linked to quality, service improvement and personal and professional development.
- Codes of Conduct and Ethics and Confidentiality and working effectively within these parameters.
- The module will support your own self reflection in determining your suitability to a Career, and will prepare you for such progressions to include interview practice and CV building
- Undertake work experience
You are expected to integrate knowledge and skills developed in other modules during your studies and relate them to relevant, contemporary workplace practices. The module is designed to meet your individual learning and development needs and be directly relevant to your practice and your career.
Module Additional Assessment Details
Word Report - 60% - 2500 words (assesses LO' 1 and 2)
Your report should evaluate your work based environment and provide critical analysis of this the operations and effectiveness proposing a project for change based on this analysis. Methods of data collection, review of literature should be detailed to ensure academic rigour present in the assessment.
Presentation - 40% - 10 - 15 minutes (assesses LO's 3 and 4)
The presentation should communicate key findings of the experience and your critical incidents experienced. The presentations should also look to outline your findings and your project outcomes outlining further recommendations for change.
All elements of assessment must be passed.
All elements of assessment, including any reflective work, must be supported by references to appropriate literature and referenced according to appropriate academic conventions within APA style.
Formative Assessment
Students will be required to undertake a journal of experiences via the College VLE to support their ongoing experiences. Feedback will be received from the Module Leader on these journal entries. This will be ongoing throughout the 150 hours.
