Module Learning Strategies
Students will follow a thirty week guided study programme and access support material via the college VLE. The module will consist of 3 hours per week.
The module will include:
Scheduled Learning and Teaching Activities: (90 hours) (3 hours X 30 weeks)

1 hour seminar discussion per week
Guided Independent Study: (210 hours)
60 hours background reading
60 hours assessment planning

Module Indicative Content
This module will aim to provide learners with the opportunity to; (1) Evaluate the role and impact of group dynamics within an event management team (2) Develop a specific Event proposal outlining key issues including project management, financial processes, team and individual management and customer focused issues. (3) Demonstrate knowledge and awareness of management responsibilities, project management principles and group roles in the planning and management of a planned sporting event and (4) Undertake the planning, management and evaluation of a sporting event.
Teaching will include;
- Investigating the structure and nature of the events industry in relation to sports development and coaching.
- Evaluating the role of group dynamics in team development, particularly event management teams.
- Discussing local and national government involvement in and policy towards the staging of events
- Recognising the economic significance of events on a regional, national and international level.
- Investigating both human and financial resources management issues within sports event management.
- Recognising the importance the safeguarding adults and children in relation Sports Development and Coaching
- Learners will have the opportunity to work in management teams to carry out event management tasks in the lead up to the event delivery.
- This module also requires students to apply events management theory to practice by undertaking operational management, planning and organisation of a live sporting event.
- Learners will also be tasked to reflect upon their learning experiences and discuss how these have impacted professional practice.
Module Additional Assessment Details
Students will be required to complete 2 pieces of summative assessment.
(1) To provide a report (1500 words) that outlines the role and impact of group dynamics in team performance and management. This is worth 40% of the module grade and assesses LO 1
(2) Assessment 2 is to be assessed across 3 parts, and is worth 60% of the module grade and assesses LO's 2,3 and 4. The three grades achieved within each part will be added to give one grade for assessment 2
Part 1
To deliver a 10- minute oral presentation of the detailed event proposal in line with the guidelines provided. This is worth 20% of your assessment 2 grade.
Part 2
To work as part of a team to plan, manage and evaluate a sporting event. Attendance at this event is compulsory. Students must attend and contribute to the event in order to pass this module. Students will be expected to undertake a key role within the organisation of the event. This assesses. This is worth 20% of your assessment 2 grade.
Part 3
To produce a 800 word written reflection considering the event planning and delivery. Considerations must be made for future events. This is worth 20% of your assessment 2 grade.
All elements of assessment must be passed
Additional Assessment Details:
Students will be provided with formative assessment and feedback via tasks and discussions.
Students will receive formative feedback throughout the module comprising a combination of task related feedback and comments on during class discussion contributions offered up throughout the module.
All elements of assessment, including any reflective work, must be supported by references to appropriate literature and referenced according to appropriate academic conventions within APA style.
