It is envisaged that 2 hours per week be dedicated to practical and 1 hour per week to the theoretical requirements of the module
Guided Independent Study: (210 Hours)
60 hours background reading
60 hours assessment planning and coaching planning
90 hours assessment writing and coaching plan preparation
Module Additional Assessment Details
Assessment 1.
A written assignment (1500 words) covering learning outcomes 1 and 2 weighted at 50%.
The assessment will examine the periodisation process and apply the exercise interventions to strength and conditioning for football and demonstrate knowledge of different strength and conditioning considerations for football players varying in age, gender and playing position.
Assessment 2
A practical needs analysis project and training programme design/implementation/review (1500 words) covering learning outcomes 3 and 4 weighted at of 50%.
Complete a performance profile, of a peer, from a practical needs analysis project which focuses on the optimisation of strength and conditioning of the player. The needs analysis should focus on exercise interventions to develop maximal strength, power and endurance, aerobic fitness, straight line and repeated sprint ability, agility, and flexibility for football players.
All elements of assessment, including any reflective work, must be supported by references to appropriate literature and referenced according to appropriate academic conventions within APA style.
Additional Assessment Details (include formative feedback / assessment):
Module Indicative Content
The unit content will aim to equip students with the knowledge, understanding and practical skills to develop physical fitness of a football player. Specifically (1) Examine the periodisation process and apply the exercise interventions to strength and conditioning for football. (2) Knowing and understanding different strength and conditioning considerations for football players varying in age, gender and playing position (3) Design exercise interventions to develop maximal strength, power and endurance, aerobic fitness, straight line and repeated sprint ability, agility, and flexibility for football players and (4) Being able to perform a needs analysis for a football player and use this assessment data to optimise a strength and conditioning plan for the football player,
The specific content with the module will include
1. Developing a needs analysis for the football player.
2. Long Term Athlete Development pathway for football
3. Use of assessment data for optimising strength and conditioning prescription.
4. Strength and conditioning considerations for football players of varying age, gender and playing position.
5. Development of maximal strength, power and endurance in the football player.
6. Development of aerobic endurance in the football player.
7. Development of straight line and lateral sprint ability in the football player.
8. Development of agility in the football player.
9. Development of flexibility for football.
10. Periodisation considerations when prescribing strength and conditioning for football
