Module Additional Assessment Details
Assessment 1 - a 1500 word report weighted at 50% assesses LO's 1, 2 and 3 which analyses the role of the coach in a contemporary football environment and their effectiveness in development opportunities within local, regional and national initiatives.
Assessment 2 - 2 coaching sessions and plans and reflections of these two coaching sessions weighted at 50% of the assessment grade, assesses LO 4 designed to develop a specialist population.
Additional Assessment Details (include formative feedback / assessment):
Formative feedback will be received throughout the module tasks and within seminar based activities. Students will complete peer and self assessment on coaching sessions delivered to peers in preparation for assessed activities. Module leader will offer feedback and areas for improvement.
All elements of assessment, including any reflective work, must be supported by references to appropriate literature and referenced according to appropriate academic conventions within APA style.
Module Indicative Content
The central aim of the module is for learners to be equipped with the skills and knowledge relevant to the coaching of different and specialist populations. Specifically (1) Analyse the role of the football coach in a contemporary football environment including clubs, schools, football academies and private coaching organisations, (2) Examine the effectiveness of specialist coaching services supporting a range of football development opportunities. (3) Examine the links between local, regional and national initiatives and the role of the football coaching in the contemporary environments and (4) Design and deliver coaching sessions to develop specialist populations.
Teaching will include;
- Community initiatives and the role of the coach in this process
- Coaching within different environments
- Coaching in line with specific Football Association strategies
- Coaching of specialist populations
- Planning for Long Term Athlete Development of the footballer
- Differentiation within coaching
- Analysis of performance to inform coaching practice and planning
Module Learning Strategies
Learners will follow a thirty week guided programme of study.
Scheduled Learning and Teaching Activities: (90 hours) over 30 weeks
It is envisaged that 2 hours per week be dedicated to coaching practice and development and 1 hour per week to the theoretical requirements of the module.
Guided Independent Study (210 hours)
60 hours background reading,
60 hours assessment planning and coaching planning
90 hours assessment writing and coaching plan preparation
