Module Indicative Content
Semester 1
Lecture and seminar content will explore aspects of the National Curriculum for England, the professional standards for teachers and key aspects of teacher training, required experience and qualifications.
Semester 2
The placement element of the module aims to provide experience of learning from and applying knowledge to a school or youth sport related working environment. Each student is given the opportunity to undertake a specific and relevant work based project that is agreed by the supervising tutor, the host organisation and the student. The module provides students with the opportunity to increase their knowledge of school or youth sport environment life and practices, whilst developing key personal and transferable skills by applying their knowledge & skills to a school environment. Child protection issues will be covered.
Special Admissions Requirements
Include any additional admission requirements other than modules that must have been studied.
Students must be undertaking the BSc PE and Youth Sport coaching award.

This module contains a combination of face to face and blended learning. Lectures and seminars will be interactive and require full participation. Some seminars will be student led and facilitated by the lecturer.there will be practical elements to the course and again participation will be vital. Independent study tasks will be set but further idependant study will be required. This may include reading around module topics, discussion based activities or investigating current theories associated wth the module. Student led independant study will be required specifcally for assessment preparation. Semester 2 will include a placement opportunity for all students in a teaching or coaching enviroment. Reflection upon this experience will be essential and will formulate a large part of the second assessment.
ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT DETAILS
Theory focussed:
Semester 1
A 1500 word audit of personal and professional skills and qualifications within a reflective commentary of the areas of the national curriculum for England and the professional teaching standards. (LO's 1, 2 and 3). This will be worth 40% of the overall mark.
Placement focussed:
Semester 2
1. A Placement logbook. This will be worth 20% of the overall mark and will assess LO 4.
2. A 15 minute recorded viva to discuss the development of strengths and weaknesses, reflect on placement experience and demonstrate an understanding of future development. A portfolio of evidence will need to be provided to support the statements from the verbal discussion.(assessing LO's 4 and 5).
3. An attendance register detailing the hours spent at the placement host. This should total 70 hours and all entries should be signed off by the placement mentor to confirm attendance (assessing LO's 4 and 5). This is worth 0% of the overall mark but is compulsory.
Additional Assessment Details (including formative feedback / assessment):
Students will be provided with formative assessment and feedback via a series of mandatory meetings that they are required to attend with their University placement supervisor across the duration of their placement. Placement progress and review of draft work will be assessed during these meetings.
