Module Details
Indicative Content
This module aims to develop students’ knowledge and understanding of training principles, specifically those surrounding practice design through a series of lectures and practical sessions. Students are required to participate in a series of sessions, which are both tutor and student-lead (where appropriate), with a specific focus on training principles, periodising training, position specific training, and practices appropriate for differing ages, maturity, ability and experience levels. Students need to be able to understand age and maturation, unopposed and opposed practice development, dealing with talented players, methods and techniques of observing and analysing performance, and issues in planning and evaluating performance.
Assessment Details
There are 2 pieces of summative assessment associated with this module. Each piece of assessment does not have to be passed in order to pass the module overall. Details of the assessment(s) are below:

Assessment 1 (LO1 + LO2): Group Presentation
The first assessment will be in the form of a 20 minute group presentation (50% of the module grade). The presentation will focus upon practice design, development of talent, and periodisation for youth football performers.

Assessment 2 (LO3 + LO4): Practical Coaching Session
The second assessment will be in the form of a 20 minute practical coaching session (50% of the module grade). The practical coaching session will focus upon the planning and delivery of a football specific coaching session that aims to develop an aspect of skill/performance. [FINAL]

The pass criteria is explained within the course handbook. All students must attempt both of the assessments, with 40% as the criteria at which a pass will be achieved. If students do not submit, or fail to achieve a pass grade in their assessment, then the ramifications of this are detailed in the course handbook.

Additional Assessment Details (include formative feedback / assessment):
Formative assessments will be conducted through on-going practical training sessions. The assessment workshops will develop relevant skills during the module and feedback will be regularly employed to enable students to review progress.

Learning Strategies
This module will consist of a blended approach to delivery. The on-campus taught aspect of delivery will be conducted via lectures and practical sessions, which will discuss, analyse, cirtique, and implement in a practical setting key concepts and issues surrounding the central content of the module. The online distance-learning aspect of delivery will be completed via Blackboard using 'Independent Learning Activities' (ILAs). Students will be required to independently work with experienced coaches to further develop knowledge and skills of football coaching and practice design. It is important to observe a range of coaches, a youth coach, a senior coach of an adults team, as well as an adapted version of the game, such as 'Walking Football'. Independent reading will be required prior to assessments. Reflection upon assessment feedback and identification of future needs is also vital to student success.
