Indicative Content
The real world project aims to provide an authentic experience of small scale project and event management to address genuine problems faced by the sector. The module content focuses on interdisciplinary learning across
• Sport sociology
• Sports project management,
• Sports development and coaching.
These projects will be focused on delivering local objectives to meet the needs of partners in relation to health, sport NGB's, voluntary and education sectors in their pursuit of growing and sustaining participation in sport and physical activity.
Students will gain experience of professional skills and knowledge of
• Project planning
• Strategic management,
• Social theory,
• Team and independent working,
• Problem solving and adaptability,
• Interpersonal and communication skills.
In groups you will be required to present your proposed project to one another, module lecturers, industry based partners and communicate the event to participants. Research and apply equality and diversity legislation and good practice requirements, identify equality and diversity issues within communities, including inequalities and barriers to participation. Develop project ideas to address equality and diversity issues and increase participation. Develop detailed safety plans and a coordinated approach to the safe running of the event. Manage an effective event and deliver all the desired outcomes.
Assessment Details
Assessment 1: 20 min group presentation of project proposal to industry partner (40%) assessing learning outcomes 1,2 and 3.
Participate in the production and presentation of information and arguments justifying a proposed sport project to staff and employers within the industry.
Assessment 2: 2000 word reflective project portfolio (60%) assessing learning outcomes 1,3 and 4.
Final Assessment.
Assessment 3: A diary (0%) recording the hours spent involved with the project. This should include all aspects of the planning and delivery of the project. This should total at least 18 hours. (LOS 5) This is a zero weighed assessment.
Each element of assessment must be submitted.
The reflective portfolio allows you to reflect on both the project as a whole and your own involvement in the project comparing, in a critical manner, this experience with the theoretical issues surrounding sport projects.
Additional Assessment Details (include formative feedback / assessment):
Formative feedback will be given in group and individual discussion during the workshop sessions for both assessments.

Learning Strategies
This module contains a combination of face to face and blended learning. Lectures and seminars will be interactive and require full participation. Some seminars will be student led and facilitated by the lecturer.Independent study tasks will be set but further idependant study will be required. This may include reading around module topics, discussion based activities or investigating current theories associated wth the module. Student led independant study will be required specifcally for assessment preparation.
