Module Details
INDICATIVE CONTENT
This module provides students with an opportunity to work in partnership with external employers to plan, deliver and evaluate a live sports event that has a tangible impact on the local community. Students will engage with the full event lifecycle, including needs analysis, stakeholder engagement, project planning, risk assessment, budgeting, marketing, delivery and post-event evaluation. Working in teams, students will develop professional communication skills through regular contact with industry partners, responding to client briefs and adapting plans in line with real-world constraints and expectations.

The module will also explore the wider social, economic and health benefits of community-based sport, encouraging students to consider how events can be used to promote inclusion, participation and social value. Students will be supported to apply appropriate project management tools and reflect on leadership, teamwork and individual responsibility within a professional setting. Through structured guidance and supervised independent study, students will critically evaluate the success of their event and their own contribution to the project, developing confidence, employability skills and an understanding of professional standards within the sport industry.
ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT DETAILS
Summative

Students will produce a written report that covers the project event that they have delivered. Starting with the purpose and briefing of the project, to key measurables and outcomes, finishing with event reflections and evidence of impact.

Formative

Formative assessment will form a key aspect of preparing students for their summative assessment. All students will receive a formative assessment opportunity as part of the module.
LEARNING STRATEGIES
Learning in this module will be based on experiential, work-related learning through direct engagement with industry partners and live community projects. Tutor-led workshops will introduce key concepts in event planning, project management, health and safety, budgeting and marketing, which students will then apply within their employer linked projects. Students will work in collaborative teams, developing communication, leadership and professional behaviours through regular meetings, progress planning and problem-solving activities.

Independent and group-based learning will be supported through supervised project work, formative feedback and structured reflection to help students evaluate their decision-making and professional development. Industry engagement, client interaction and real time project challenges will provide authentic learning opportunities, enabling students to transfer theory into practice and develop the skills, confidence and professional awareness required for employment within the sport industry.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
1.

Undertake consultation with an employee partner to create a sports ‘event’ that has demonstrable impact within a community setting.

2.

Reflect on the delivery of the event and consider strength, weaknesses and future areas for development.
