Lectures (12hrs) will form an important part of the learning process, increasing students' knowledge of crucial issues that underpin the course. Seminars will be fortnightly, student-led and will often follow a workshop approach (12 hours). Students will be required to undertake background reading, including journals, current newspapers, government reports and refer to the internet in order to prepare for seminars and the final assessment.(40 hours). Students will also be expected to observe and analyse taped extracts and interviews from physical education and coaching sessions to research curriculum changes, using a variety of methodologies (34 hours). Research and preparation of the coursework assessment is expected to take approximately 40 hours.
Module Indicative Content
This module will develop student's understanding of children's development through sport and physical education. Specifically it will allow students to critically analyse the psychological and social development of young people in sport and physical education. It will also critically analyse the national curriculum and evaluate the impact of physical education on young people.

Module Additional Assessment Details
One examination worth 100% (2 hours). This will cover learning outcomes 1, 2 & 3.
Formative learning will be mainly via discussions within seminar situations and via independent study.
Students will be required to undertake preparatory reading ahead of seminars to create an informed discussion about topical issues.
