Module Learning Strategies
Students will participate in a combination of lectures, practical application workshops and independent learning activities designed and delivered through the VLE, and tutor input.
Taught sessions: 50 hours

Independent study: 100 hours

40 Preparing presentation and writing assignment
Module Indicative Content
- Current health care system in the UK and the referral process, including referrals to other professionals.
- Bodies such as NHS, PCT and GP referral involved with the promotion of active living and safe exercise.
- Pathology of a range of common medical conditions and diseases such as diabetes, heart disease and arthritis.
- Analyse how the effects of physical activity and exercise impact on common medical conditions and diseases.
- Apply appropriate physical activity, exercise and nutritional strategies according to medical conditions and diseases.
- Be able to apply exercise and nutritional prescription for a referred client showing accurate and relevant knowledge
Module Additional Assessment Details
A range of formative and summative assessment methods will be used which are appropriate to the teaching and learning delivery method, mode of attendance and proposed weighting criteria used for this module.
A contextualised and approved assessment strategy and schedule will be published to students.
Summative assessment
Students will be required to complete 2 pieces of summative assessment.
1. Prepare and present a 15 minute presentation to assess LO1 and LO2 which is worth 60% of the overall module mark.
2. The completion of a case study project which will be practically delivered over a 6 week period and require the application of theory to practice. Worth 40% of the overall module mark to assess LO3.
A number of formative assessments will take place over the course of the module; this will include question and answer, group discussion and a module forum.
Formative feedback will be provided in a variety of forms, including verbal written feedback on the development of ideas for the case study and presentation, and feedback on class activities.
