Module Learning Strategies
Scheduled Learning and Teaching Activities: (24 hours)
12 hours of Lectures
12 hours of workshop-based material, delivered by the S&C staff through webcasts

Guided Independent Study: (276 hours)
58 hours preparation for workshops/completion of tasks / Bb activities
76 hours of assigned reading
14 hours tutorial support
56 hours preparing for presentations
60 hours preparing for submission of summative assessments
12 hours undertaking and reflecting on the research process as participants
Assessment Details
Poster presentation OR info-graphic - 50% - on the effects on TAM with regard to the holistic approach to training athletes, covering subjects such as nutrition, supplementation, ergogenic aids, drugs, travel, social or home life and protein synthesis in performance sport.

The poster OR info-graphic will be displayed and assessed by guest lecturers, supervisors and cohort members. (Assesses LO's 1&2)

A formal viva – 50% will be conducted to allow the student to defend the presentation, displaying advanced knowledge of the subject matter area. (assesses LO’s 1&3)

Additional Assessment Details (include formative feedback / assessment):
Formative assessment will be conducted via on line Skype study group discussions as required.

Indicative Content
Students will attend a series of lectures and tutorials which will develop an advanced level of understanding of Total Athlete Management (TAM) e.g. evaluating, planning, structuring, implementing, monitoring, assessing and re -evaluating the training plans and adaptations for specific athletes. Students will demonstrate an advanced level of knowledge in the identification of essential performance characteristics Through critical analysis of current primary research, the student will demonstrate an advanced knowledge of the effects of e.g. nutrition, recovery, travel and the ability to optimize programme design.
Students will develop an advanced level of understanding of TAM in relation to the adaptation of nutritional strategies e.g. the optimal timing and quantity of macronutrient intake in relation to resistance training. Students will also develop an advanced level of knowledge regarding e.g. the use of ergogenic aids and supplements in relation to the strength and conditioning of athletes.

Students will develop an advanced level of knowledge and understanding of the nature and need for recovery and its influence upon adaptations to training e.g. protein synthesis and degradation; changes in muscle fibre type composition; hypertrophy, atrophy and the influence of satellite cells.
